Stolen Dodge Ram Crosses State Lines Before Recovery
A rare blue Dodge Ram 1500 was recovered in Massachusetts after thieves stole the truck from a New Jersey dealership showroom, crashing through the building and damaging other vehicles as they escaped.
The Ram, which was part of the dealership’s inventory, had been preloaded with a FortiTrak stolen vehicle recovery device. That device would become critical as the stolen truck crossed state lines and law enforcement worked to locate it.
Thieves Crash Through Dealership Showroom
The theft began when individuals gained access to the dealership showroom and obtained the keys to the Ram. After starting the truck inside the showroom, the thieves used the vehicle to force their way out.
The Ram was driven through the showroom, crashing into other vehicles in its path before smashing through the dealership’s front window and fleeing the property.
The incident left behind damage inside the showroom, but the stolen truck was already on the move.
The dealership contacted FortiTrak, and the vehicle’s tracking information was transferred to local law enforcement to assist with the recovery.
Stolen Ram Crosses State Lines
As the stolen Ram traveled out of New Jersey, local authorities coordinated with law enforcement in Massachusetts. Active location updates from FortiTrak were provided to officers as they worked to locate the vehicle.
The search eventually developed into a high-speed pursuit.
The individuals later abandoned the truck, and its location was identified in a Walmart parking lot in Massachusetts.
Massachusetts law enforcement secured the vehicle, bringing the search to an end.
Recovered and Returned to New Jersey
After the recovery, the truck was transported back to New Jersey as the investigation continued.
The vehicle was processed for potential evidence as authorities worked to identify those responsible for the theft.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Despite being driven across state lines and the destructive circumstances surrounding the initial theft, the truck itself was recovered with relatively minor damage. The necessary repairs can be completed, allowing the vehicle to return to the dealership’s inventory and ultimately be resold.
