A Simple Guide to the FortiTrak Recovery Process
Discovering that your vehicle has been stolen can be overwhelming, but knowing what to do next can make all the difference. If your vehicle is equipped with a FortiTrak Stolen Vehicle Recovery device, taking the right steps quickly helps begin the recovery process as soon as possible.
Here’s what to do if your vehicle is ever stolen.
Step 1: Report the Theft to Local Law Enforcement
Your first step should always be to contact your local police department and file a stolen vehicle report. A police report is an essential part of the recovery process and allows law enforcement to begin their investigation.
Step 2: Report the Theft Through the FortiTrak App
After filing your police report, open the FortiTrak app and select “Report A Theft”. You’ll be guided through the information needed to initiate the recovery process.
Once your theft report is received, your FortiTrak device transitions from its normal operation into “live recovery mode.”
Step 3: The Device Begins Live Recovery
During everyday use, your FortiTrak device is designed to conserve power while remaining ready if it’s ever needed. Once a vehicle has been reported stolen, the device changes how it operates.
Instead of performing its normal scheduled check-ins, the device continuously obtains updated location information to support the recovery effort. This allows location data to be received as the vehicle moves, helping law enforcement respond as quickly as possible.
Step 4: FortiTrak Supports the Recovery Process
Throughout the recovery, the FortiTrak monitoring team works alongside law enforcement by providing updated location information as it becomes available. This helps officers track the vehicle’s movement.
Every Minute Matters
Being prepared before a theft occurs can make all the difference. Understanding how the recovery process works allows you to respond quickly and confidently when every minute counts. At FortiTrak, we’re with you every step of the way.
